The Ivorian Foufou (Mashed Plantain) is not prepared in a mortar but by mixing mashed boiled bananas with red palm oil.
It is a very popular dish in Akan country. According to a 1989 survey, banana fufu is particularly popular
in Côte d'Ivoire in Abidjan and the east, and Yam foufou (Mashed Yam) in the east and north.
**Cooking Instructions
1- Open the Maite bag and pour the contents into a container that can hold twice the size.
2- Gradually pour 500 ml of lukewarm water (about 60 degrees C) over the flour while stirring to obtain a smooth, consistent dough.
3- Next, add about 10 tablespoons of red palm oil to your dough and continue stirring. Once thoroughly mixed, your banana FOUFOU is ready!
*** For a better result:
1- Add 250ml more of water which makes a total of 750ml
2- Then microwave the mixture for 3 minutes in total. But stop half way (1mn 30sec) to mix before continuing.
3- You can use a spoon or a spatula but using your hand will allow you to make sure you achieve the texture you prefer
4- Next, add about 10 tablespoons of red palm oil to your dough and continue stirring. Once thoroughly mixed, your banana FOUFOU is ready!
